The stage for the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 World Olympics in London featured many of the most prominent landmarks of the city's skyline which included St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben, the London Eye, the Royal Albert Hall, the ‘Gherkin’ (St Mary Axe) and Battersea Power Station. Besides symbolizing the obvious phallic symbol and womb in addition to an egg (or another phallic symbol) these iconic landmarks were metaphors for much deeper meaning.
An upbeat orchestral rendition of The Who's song Baba O'Riley (Teenage Wasteland) accompanied the 60 second countdown to the opening of the Closing Ceremony. A replica of Big Ben, the iconic bell tower of London chimed nine times to kick off the festivities. Pop artist Emeli Sande sang her hit Read All About It to set up the theme for the show as the stage's runways were plastered with news headlines of well-known quotes from British poets. As Emeli's song suggests, "You've got the words to change a nation, but you're biting your tongue. You've spent a life time stuck in silence, afraid you'll say something wrong. If no one ever hears it, how we gonna learn your song? So come on, come on, come on, come on. You've got a heart as loud as lions so why let your voice be tamed? Baby we're a little different, there's no need to be ashamed. You've got the light to fight the shadows so stop hiding it away. Come on, Come on. I wanna sing, I wanna shout. I wanna scream till the words dry out so put it in all of the papers -- I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it." From the Closing Ceremony Media Guide, "Emeli Sande is driven around the track in a newspaper rubbish truck singing 'Read All About It'...
"The newsprint floor cloth features classic lines of English literature -- from the earliest surviving 8th century Anglo-Saxon poetry, Beowulf through Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Pope, Byron, Shelley, Wordsworth, Keats, Austen, Hardy, Dickens and Tolkien, right up to the current poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy." So they are telling us words have the power to change the nation (and by extension, the whole world) and they are telling us to read all about it while they strategically place headlines and text all over the stage and all throughout the show. It was the selection and placement of the text during which moments that made it interesting. The first readable line was a quote from the witch/master magician and tyrannical ruler Prospero from William Shakespeare's play The Tempest:"We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep."
The stage for this section of the average Londoner's morning commute to work in traffic featured roadways criss-crossing to form the eight arms of the British flag's design. But what had me confused until later in the show was the Aztec or Mayan southwestern pattern or design. While members of the theater group named Stomp hung on the wheel and banged on pots, pans and buckets, the chorus from the Beatles' song Because was sung by a choir. According to the Media Guide, "John Lennon said the tune is based on Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' played backwards." This obviously lends to its strange vibe. "Because the world is round it turns me on. Because the world is round...aaaaaahhhhhh. Because the wind is high it blows my mind. Because the wind is high...aaaaaaaahhhh."
The very first words spoken are from the top of the gothic looking bell tower of Big Ben which opened up like a lotus flower to reveal Winston Churchill who quotes Caliban, the monsterous man-beast and son of a witch hag from The Tempest. Probably the most oft-quoted work throughout the Games is Shakespeare's play The Tempest which featured the exiled Duke, Prospero, and his daughter, Miranda. Why was this work selected of all the great literary works? It is because it contains all the elements that the elite are using to fool us. Prospero is a sorceror, a master magician who has been exile to a prison. Ariel, basically a siren who sings and casts spells, is an airy spirit who serves him. There is Caliban who is a monster, a man in the moon. Then there are court jesters. Before his prison cell where he is exiled, he declares,
"Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises, Sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not. Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments will hum about mine ears; and sometime voices that, if I then had waked after long sleep, will make me sleep again; and then in dreaming, the clouds methought would open, and show riches ready to drop upon me, that when I waked, I cried to dream again."
While he gives his speech a headline which reads, "Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all." and then more prominently "SHIPS THAT PASS IN THE NIGHT" ("Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing, only a signal shown, and a distant voice in the darkness; So on the ocean of life, we pass and speak one another, only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence".) and "THE REST IS SILENCE".
More difficult to discern is a map of paradise and a print of text from Kubla Khan, a poem which begins describing a pleasure dome of paradise only to later reveal a chasm. But words from the poem can clearly be seen when the camera zooms in as he yells, "Stop! Stop!"
"a savage place as holy and enchanting as e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted by a woman wailing for her demon-lover". The poem goes on to later describe a "damsel with a dulcimer in a vision I once saw: it was an Abyssinian maid, and on her dulcimer she played singing of Mount Abora. Could I revive within me her symphony and song to such a deep delight 'twould win me. that with music loud and long, I would build that dome in air, that sunny dome! those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there And all should cry, Beware! Beware!..."
To me bell towers represent the tower on the moon which retrieves souls at death. It's a tower or tow-er. The moon also was said to have rung like a bell when the astronauts landed. In this depiction the bell tower Big Ben is very gothic looking and looks to have feathers, tufts or wings. The moon is a big bin or storage area. Like the Frost Bank Building in Austin, Texas it represents an owl, a predator which sees in the dark. The sirens of greek mythology lured sailors to their deaths on the rock with their beautiful singing. Sirens were originally half-human, half-bird and to me the rock is the moon and the sailor is the soul at death..
All the while the group Stomp is still hanging from the wheel. The following headlines can be seen:
"...stress' eyes are... like the sun" (my mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun")
Tyger... bright" ("Tyger, Tyger, burning bright").
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"
"SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY"
"If we shadows have offended"
"Now is the time of our discontent."
"The World's Mine Oyster" a quote by the character Pistol from Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor (The world's mine oyster, Which I with sword will open.").
Now is the Winter of Our Discontent: "Now is the winter of our discontent Made glorious summer by this sun of York.... Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace, Have no delight to pass away the time, Unless to spy my shadow in the sun."
"Ozymandius... King of Kings"
some excerpts from the Walter Scott poem Marmion, which contained the famous line "Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive!",
All The World's A Stage,
How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways,
A Martian Sends a Postcard Home,
Water Water Everywhere,
To Die Will Be An Awfully Big Adventure (Peter Pan),
selection from Willaim Blake's Milton,
Stone Walls Do Not a Prison Make (Nor iron bars a cage) from Richard Lovelace,
When a man is tried of London, he is tired of life".
Next the national anthem of England was sang as Prince Henry of Wales looked on.
God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen
O Lord our God arise
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall
Confound their politics
Frustrate their knavish tricks
On Thee our hopes we fix
God save us all
After the group Madness performed Our House, the '80s phenom The Pet Shop Boys performed their geographically appropriate hit, West End Girls with members wearing orange sculptural headgear and riding on winged rickshaws. Lead singer Neil Tennant and one of the other members were clad all in black with long pointy witches hats while singing the depressing lyrics of the song: "Sometimes you're better off dead. There's gun in your hand and it's pointing at your head. You think you're mad, too unstable. Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables. In a restaurant in a West End town, call the police, there's a madman around. Running down underground to a dive bar in a West End town. In a West End town, a dead end world, the East End boys and West End girls. In a West End town, a dead end world, The East End boys and West End girls, West End girls."
The commentator added, "Stomp recreating the chaos of the hustle and bustle of London is all about the working day of most Londoners, but we're heading toward sunset." by performing with round silver trashcan lids and dust brooms. Various visible newsprint said: "Look back in anger" and
" Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light." ("Do Not Go Gentle into that good night") by Dylan Thomas
"look back in anger -- 1956 play by john Osbourne, "Trouble is... (you get used to people) even their (trivialities become indispensable to you"
"the continually falling market"
"Trouble is....you get used to people"
"TO BE OR NOT TO BE, that is the question "
The poem Buckingham Palace by A.A. Milne... "They're changing the guard at Buckingham Palace. Christopher Robin went down with Alice. Alice is marrying one of the guard. A soldier's life is terrible hard."
"Mad, bad and dangerous to know" a phrase used to describe Lord Byron.
A line from the T.S. Eliot poem The Hollow Men could be read as a headline on the stage: "This is the way the world ends... the hollow men... souls... but with a whimper... stuffed men "
From "To Althea, from Prison" by Richard Lovelace:
The ramps that led up to the Eye were rolled back as the ferris wheel once again became a central feature just as it did in the Opening ceremony. Just like the Opening Ceremony, a child in bed at night in front of the "wheel". The child accompanied by the theater group of clowns, acrobats and tumblers named Spelbound wakes up to the sound of the Beatles' A Day in the Life, a very sad song about the death of John Lennon's mum.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
"I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords
I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the book
I'd love to turn you on.
Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, I noticed I was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream
Ah
I read the news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall
I'd love to turn you on"
During A Day in the Life newsprint revealed the headline "O Brave New world". Also "O Thy barren, than all fancy".
"As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise. Waterloo sunset's fine."
Former lead singer of The Kinks, Ray Davies, performed Waterloo Sunset as joker dancers with orange hair (evoking images of the Colorado killer, James Holmes) danced. One jumped up into an egg or pine cone like structure which had a few cells open with other jokers already in them. The band's amps were decorated in newspaper and contained.... Scott and Bumble.... with one clown balancing on a tightrope suspended bwtween to or three lit pillars or towers and tumblers spinning round and round inside the wheel. At the end again "dying light" and "TO BE OR NOT TO BE" headlines were shown.
Once again Emeli Sande came on stage to finish her song Read All About It:
"At night we're waking up the neighbours while we sing away the blues, making sure that we remember cause we all matter too. If the truth has been forbidden, then we're breaking all the rules so come on, come on, come on, come on. Let's get the TV and the radio to play our tune again. It's 'bout time we got some airplay of our version of events. There's no need to be afraid. I will sing with you my friend. Come on, come on. I wanna sing, I wanna shout, I wanna scream till the words dry out so put it in all of the papers -- I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it."
After the flag bearer's procession of nations, Kate Bush performed. Mummies or Caliban carrying "303 white boxes representing 303 events" and built a pyramid or triangular prism with them. Then they all knelt on their knees in worship and then all laid down all the floor as if slain or in burial.
In the chorus of the song Kate Bush sings, "Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making? It's you, it's you and me. And if only I could, I'd make a deal with God, and I'd get him to swap our places, be running up that road, be running up that hill, be running up that building, if only I could. You don't want to hurt me, but see how deep the bullet lies. Unaware I'm tearing you asunder. Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.".
The real question is what God is the song referring to and what kind of deal. Most deals are made with the Devil. At one point of the song a drawing was shown of an angel or winged hunter with a bow and arrow aimed, whether Artemis/Diana or Sagittarius or Orion. After lying down and the song finished a couple of gold medal winners were shown displaying their gold medals with the greek goddess of victory Nike.
Sun, sun, sun.... sun, sun, sun,,,, ahhhhh.... sun, sun, sun.... sun, sun, sun.... ahhhhhhh.... sun, sun, sun.... sun, sun, sun.... here "IT" comes. Here comes the sun doo doo doo doo, here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo, and I say it's alright... sun, sun, sun.... here It comes..... here comes the sun... here comes the sun... and I say, "It's alright" .... here comes the sun, here comes the sun amd i say Its alright. It's alright.
Thanking of the "Games Makers", the thousands of volunteers. .
From the Media Guide: "The voice of Freddie Mercury echoes around the Stadium, singing Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’." The iconic opening lines of the song were blasted:
"Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see."
A white wedge or pyramid of children in white "IMAGINE" t-shirts with the Olympic flame shown above/behind them sang and signed the opening verse to John Lennon's anthem, Imagine.
Also newsprint featuring the poem Postcards From A Martian was visible.
IMAGINE
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one
A copious amount of white balloons were released up into the air as a segueway between the song Imagine and George Michael's performance. George Michael, wearing all black with a Diesel (die soul?) t-shirt and a big silver skull for a belt buckle, came out and sang his songs Freedom & White Light with lights all around the stadium and the British flag design which is identical to the witches' Wheel of the Year or buddhist solar wheel, or wheel of rebirth. Also newsprints with the words "dying light" and "TO BE OR NOT TO BE" were visible. The choir and crowd chanted the word FREEDOM as the word was lit up in huge lights scrolling across the stands. The song Freedom contains the bridge, "Well it looks like the road to heaven, but it feels like the road to Hell. When I knew which side my bread was buttered, I took the knife as well". Here is something I didn't notice the forst few times on watched it, but curiously in the Canadian TV broadcast on the word "hell" they showed an aeriel view of him standing in a bright circle of light. In the BBC broadcast they interestingly did the exact same switch, but showed him in the spotlight for the phrase "road to hell". Then they went back to chanting "FREEDOM" finishing with the song's chorus, "Freedom, you've gotta give for what you take".
Before singing his song WHITE LIGHT, George told the audience and viewers, "Remember, right now you are at the center of the universe" perhaps referring to the fact that all the eyes of the world are on the Olympic Games Ceremony. But is there a double meaning? What if all the reality we experience is in our heads, our brain or mind? And if the universe is holographic then everything is at the center. Regardless, George next sang his brand new single White Light with white lights in the stands, white lights on the stage. There were even white light bulbs on top of some peoples' hats. The song is not on any album. The song was supposedly inspired by his hospitalization with pneumonia last year (speculating rumors of HIV-infection based on his promiscuous gay lifestyle) and he performed it because he "thought it fit the end of the games". His management defended his actions by saying, "White Light is about the fact he nearly died last year. It's the first song he wrote after it all happened and he wanted to perform it for fans as a celebration that he's alive. He doesn't need to plug his new single." Could it be he was asked to write the song for the Olympics just like Muse was asked to write Survival? During the song White Light everyone chants "I'm alive" dozens of times over and over throughout the verses to a very hypnotic repetitive beat. The song basically belongs in the techno "trance" genre. In the song Freedom, the word "freedom" is sung 24 times. In the song White Light, the phrase "I'm Alive" is sung literally over 100 times!! If that isn't the definition of mind control, then I don't know what is. Did all the white balloons floating up prior to the songs represent souls at death?
The David Bowie song Fashion was used to pay homage to the British fashion industry with supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Victoria Beckham featured. Each model was wearing gold and were standing on a podium at the top of a pyramid of steps. Naomi Campbell wore a gold headdress which looked like the rising sun. As the goddesses were paraded in, fascist soldiers marched to a snare drum and punching fists into the air ahead of them and even goosestepped at times like the Nazi soldiers.
While the dancers huddled together to form the "shape of a human skull" the following newsprint could be seen: "ONLY CONNECT!" A little research revealed this to be from E.M. Forster's poem, Howard's End, and in its entirety reads, "Only connect! That was the whole of her sermon. Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be at its height. Live in fragments no longer. Only connect, and the beast and the monk, robbed of the isolation that is life to either, will die." So immediately after George Michael finished singing about the white light and freedom (while flaunting a giant skull for a belt buckle), human dancers unite to form a skull with a subliminal reference and message of connecting together.
Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics slowly rode in on a haunted pirate/ghost durge ship which crept along while she sang her song, Little Bird, from Francis Ford Coppola's soundtrack to Bram Stoker's Dracula movie. Of course, vampires steal the life force from their victims. From the Media Guide:
There was a huge black winged bird of death right behind her on the boat. The entire stadium was bathed in the Satanic colors black and red with lights in the stands displaying huge, sprawling tentacles.
The music of Pink Floyd played such a huge part in the Opening Ceremony with the song Eclipse from Dark Side of the Moon lighting the torch and setting off the fireworks display. Once again member Nick Mason played one of their songs, Wish You Were Here, along with Genesis founding member Mike Rutherford and Ed Sheeran. The song comes from the album of the same name, a concept album apparently about selling your soul to the Devil and being caught up in the big machine of the music industry. The view started out from above with the torch looking like the moon with an orange sun above it and the wheel (tunnel) directly overhead. As the band played waves and white light was shown on a big projection screen. About halfway through the song a man in a business suit was shown high above in the air walking a tightrope toward a mannequin of another business man standing with his hand out. Just a second before he makes it to the mannequin the camera view switches to the olympic logo in an orange sunburst. Together with the Olympic torch it looks like the sun and moon or the sun and a tower. He makes it to the mannequin at the end of the song and as he shakes hands the mannequin bursts into flames. The lyrics of the song, to me, are symbolic of the fish bowl or cage we are imprisoned in here on Earth and the deceipt that awaits us at death thinking we are going to heaven only to find we are recycled back into the hell of this Earth.
WISH YOU WERE HERE
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue sky's from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
And how we found
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
Russell Brand was next to perform dressed as Willy Wonka, the magician and trickster from the Willy Wonka movie. He also sang the Beatles song I Am The Walrus through a megaphone.
I AM THE WALRUS -- The Beatles
"I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.
Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.
Mister city policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying, I'm crying.
I'm crying, I'm crying.
Yellow mother custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.
Sitting in an english garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the english rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob goo goo g'joob.
Expert textpert choking smokers,
Don't you think the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty,
See how they snied.
I'm crying.
Semolina pilchard, climbing up the eiffel tower.
Elementary penguin singing Hari Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, They are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob goo goo g'joob goo goo g'joob.
Goo goo g'joob goo "
The set opened up in a psychedelic mood as Russell Brand came riding in on a psychedelic bus announcing he was going to open up your mind. After singing Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and I Am The Walrus from the Beatles he introduced the DJ Fatboy Slim whom the announcers said "had the whole nation under his spell in the 90s". The bus transformed into a huge octopus with eight tentacles as he played Right Here, Right Now and then followed that up with his hit Rockafella Skank. The octopus is a reference to the Rothschild banking dynasty from the 1890s to present day which includes the Rockefeller family and perhaps even something more sinister such as the tentacles of the parasite Archons that invade the mind. The following performers all rode in fancy convertibles. First was Jessie J singing Price Tag whose message "It's not about the money" seemed hypocritical.
Dynamite by Taio Cruz: "...baby, let’s go! 'Cause we gon’ rock this club, We gon’ go all night, We gon’ light it up, Like it’s dynamite! 'Cause I told you once, Now I told you twice, We gon’ light it up, Like it’s dynamite! "
Jessie J then performed The Bee Gees (Brothers Gibb) song You Should Be Dancing with Taio Cruz and another rapper. Then The Spice Girls sang Wannabe and kept repeating the phrase "hi C, ya" with the letter 'C' beneath their feet and repeatedly raising their right arms throughout like the Statue of Liberty. 'G' is the freemason symbol for the sun so they would like us to be G's. Ya or Yahweh is a moon god so "high 'C', Ya" could be a reference to the moon also. There was even a huge letter C with a circle around it on the runway where they performed. Wasn't Hi-C a name for the Hawaiian Punch drink so popular during the 1970's?
Noel Gallagher, former lead singer of Oasis, performed the Oasis song WONDERWALL with his new band Beady Eye as a series of white lights behind them continually flashed on the screen -- "all the roads that lead the way are winding and all the lights that light the way are blinding... you're gonna be the one that saves me"
Eric Idle from Monty Python was to be shot from a cannon, but was dumped into a hole in the middle of the stage (crater in the moon) instead. He launched into his song that explains how crappy life is, that it is just a joke, a show, and that death has the last laugh: "Life's a piece of sh*t when you look at it. Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true. You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughing as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you." The sun is shown with horns, beautiful women who are angels but then nuns dance counterclockwise around him as if to form a spell, he gets smoke blown in his face, is joined by scottish pipers from the Reading Scottish Pipe Band and then a fat lady with a trident starts singing because you know it's not really over til the fat lady sings, I guess. At the conclusion what looks like the moon eclipsing the sun and then the sun is shown as a man is successfully shot from the cannon into a net that catches him. I think all those crazy antics symbolized the soul at death being dumped into a cylinder in the moon for storage and then shot to the sun during an eclipse.
Muse was asked to write Survival as the theme song for the Olympics. The song declares --like the main page of my website -- that life is a race to win or lose. It's an intense song with a demonic sounding choir and during the performance fire shoots from the stage and he sings "I'll light the fuse". A tunnel and plasma ball of energy is shown on the stadium's huge projection screen.
SURVIVAL
Race, life's a race
And I'm gonna win
Yes, I'm gonna win
And I light the fuse
And I'll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won't pull ahead
I'll keep up the pace
And I reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes, I am prepared
To stay alive
And I won't forgive
Vengeance is mine
And I won't give in
Because I choose to thrive
Yeah we're gonna win !
Race, it's a race
And I'm gonna win
Yes, I'm gonna win
And will I light the fuse
I'll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won't pull ahead
'Cause I'll keep up the pace
And I reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes, I'm gonna win !
Fight ! Fight ! Fight ! Fight !
Win ! Win ! Win ! Win !
Yes, I'm gonna win !"
Brian May of the rock band Queen played a guitar solo, Brighton Rock, with green plasma looking lights on the projection screen (the soul?) and then a blinding white light at one point. As the rock anthem We Will Rock You started, Brian May walked along the runway past a series of white lights which each burst into flames as he passed. It's surprising to me that they didn't continue on into the second half of the song, We Are The Champions, since they usually play the two together on the radio and it would be a fitting tribute to the champions that won gold medals at the Games.
Then Usain Bolt poses like a bowman and hunter or lightning bolt? and they play the national anthem of Greece. Brazil then gave an eight minute preview of what we can expect at the 2016 Games which will be held in Rio de Janeiro. The Media Guide referred to the fact that "Singer Marisa Monte enters with a giant gown referencing goddess of the sea Yemanja". Yemanja is mainly a goddess of santeria or voudou and in Haiti she is known as "La Sirene" or "the mermaid". From Wikipedia: "As Nana Burku, she is pictured as a very old woman". "They portray her as a woman rising out of the sea". Venus (also known as Lucifer) is also portrayed as being born of the foam of the sea. A few other searches served up these gems:
"Stella Maris (Latin for "Star of the Sea") may refer to
Stella Maris "sea-star" is a name of α Ursae Minoris or Polaris, the "guiding star" (also "lodestar", "ship star", "steering star", etc.) because it has been used for celestial navigation at sea since antiquity."
The planet Venus was seen as being the Daughter of the Moon and each of the Venus Goddesses all still clearly showed their neolithic roots as Moon Goddesses.
The Venus Goddesses include Inanna in Sumer, Ishtar in Babylon, Astarte in Canaan, Isis in Egypt, Aphrodite in Greece, Venus in Rome and, in a way, Freya in Scandinavia / Northern Germany.
So I guess we get to be bombarded at the 2016 Olympics with goddess worship, specifically that of the moon goddess, Nana or Isis also known as Venus or Lucifer.
The Olympic flames folded down into what looked to me symbolized a bodhi tree or a sunrise and a magnificent phoenix bird rose from the petals. The phoenix is an egyptian symbol of rebirth and immortality. I suppose there are two ways to look at the symbolism. You can give the powers that be the benefit of the doubt and believe the Illuminati or those in power truly are enlightened and know the truth behind it all. In that case we can read what some have to say on the subject of enlightenment and illumination. I found these passages online from the book The Shining Ones: The World's Most Powerful Secret Society Revealed by Philip Gardiner and Gary Osborn which expounds upon many of the symbols used in the ceremony, such as the phoenix, the pyramid, the egg (the Gherkin), the skull, light, the lightning bolt, the light bulb above the head, the bodhi tree, the sun, fire and rebirth.
Now if the 'tree' of the phoenix is the spinal column, then its 'nest' must be the human head or skull. If the 'nest' is the head or skull then we can see that the funeral pyre in the nest, i.e. the 'nest being set alight by the sun', is the inner sun. This is an unmistakable reference to the climactic phase of the enlightenment experience -- the 'fire' through which one is reborn, the bright light explosion which takes place at the center of the head at the point of enlightenment.
In summary then if the tree or world pillar on which the phoenix perches is the spinal column then and the apex or pyramidion of the pillar is the head, then the egg is the thylamus -- the part of the body that was believed to represent the soul and the part that was passed over from incarnation to incarnation.
So we can see the the phoenix bringing the egg containing the ashes of its former self to the obelisk of the temple of the sun -- has the Shining Ones belief in reincarnation at its core.
As we know the phoenix places the egg on top of the pillar. The bennu bird of ancient egypt upon which the phoenix is largely based, is associated with the benben pillar of Heliopolis and also the miniature benben, or benbenet, the pyramidion (capstone) of the pyramid and obelisk. The pyramidion is the same as the capstone of the benben, and so the same symbolism can be applied to both.
This would also mean that the pyramid is a large-scale benben stone and also a representation of the skull or head where rebirth takes place. If the capstone represents the egg of the phoenix or bennu then it also represents the thalamus in the brain, which is associated with the centre of the seventh chakra point, the bindu point above the head, the inner sun." -- The Shining Ones: The World's Most Powerful Secret Society Revealed by Philip Gardiner and Gary Osborn
And from The Secret Teachings of All Ages by 33 degree freemason Manly P. Hall:
"The phoenix is the most celebrated of all the symbolic creatures fabricated by the ancient Mysteries for the
purpose of concealing the great truths of esoteric philosophy... Clement, one of the ante-Nicæan Fathers, describes, in the first century after Christ, the
peculiar nature and habits of the phoenix, in this wise: "There is a certain bird which is
called a Phoenix. This is the only one of its kind and lives five hundred years. And when
the time of its dissolution draws near that it must die, it builds itself a nest of
frankincense, and myrrh, and other spices, into which, when the time is fulfilled, it enters
and dies. But as the flesh decays a certain kind of worm is produced, which, being
nourished by the juices of the dead bird, brings forth feathers. Then, when it has acquired
strength, it takes up that nest in which are the bones of its parent, and bearing these it
passes from the land of Arabia into Egypt, to the city called Heliopolis. And, in open day,
flying in the sight of all men, it places them on the altar of the sun, and having done this,
hastens back to its former abode. The priests then inspect the registers of the dates, and
find that it has returned exactly as the five hundredth year was completed."
Although admitting that he had not seen the phoenix bird (there being only one alive at a
time), Herodotus amplifies a bit the description given by Clement: "They tell a story of
what this bird does which does not seem to me to be credible: that he comes all the way
from Arabia, and brings the parent bird, all plastered with myrrh, to the temple of the sun,
and there buries the body. In order to bring him, they say, he first forms a ball of myrrh as
big as he finds that he can carry; then he hollows out the ball, and puts his parent inside;
after which he covers over the opening with fresh myrrh, and the ball is then of exactly
the same weight as at first; so he brings it to Egypt, plastered over as I have said, and
deposits it in the temple of the sun. Such is the story they tell of the doings of this bird."
Both Herodotus and Pliny noted the general resemblance in shape between the phoenix
and the eagle, a point which the reader should carefully consider, for it is reasonably
certain that the modern Masonic eagle was originally a phoenix. The body of the phoenix
is described as having been covered with glossy purple feathers, while its long tail
feathers were alternately blue and red. Its head was light in color and about its neck was a
circlet of golden plumage. At the back of its head the phoenix had a peculiar tuft of
feathers, a fact quite evident, although it has been overlooked by most writers and
symbolists.
The phoenix was regarded as sacred to the sun, and the length of its life (500 to 1000
years) was taken as a standard for measuring the motion of the heavenly bodies and also
the cycles of time used in the Mysteries to designate the periods of existence. The diet of
the bird was unknown. Some writers declare that it subsisted upon the atmosphere; others
that it ate at rare intervals but never in the presence of man. Modern Masons should
realize the special Masonic significance of the phoenix, for the bird is described as using
sprigs of acacia in the manufacture of its nest.
The phoenix (which is the mythological Persian roc) is also the name of a Southern
constellation, and therefore it has both an astronomical and an astrological significance.
In all probability, the phoenix was the swan of the Greeks, the eagle of the Romans, and
the peacock of the Far East. To the ancient mystics the phoenix was a most appropriate
symbol of the immortality of the human soul, for just as the phoenix was reborn out of its
own dead self seven times seven, so again and again the spiritual nature of man rises
triumphant from his dead physical body.
Mediæval Hermetists regarded the phoenix as a symbol of the accomplishment of
alchemical transmutation, a process equivalent to human regeneration. The name phoenix
was also given to one of the secret alchemical formula. The familiar pelican of the Rose
Croix degree, feeding its young from its own breast, is in reality a phoenix, a fact which
can be confirmed by an examination of the head of the bird. The ungainly lower part of
the pelican's beak is entirely missing, the head of the phoenix being far more like that of
an eagle than of a pelican. In the Mysteries it was customary to refer to initiates as
phoenixes or men who had been born again, for just as physical birth gives man
consciousness in the physical world, so the neophyte, after nine degrees in the womb of
the Mysteries, was born into a consciousness of the Spiritual world. This is the mystery
of initiation to which Christ referred when he said, "Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God" (John iii. 3). The phoenix is a fitting symbol of this
spiritual truth.
European mysticism was not dead at the time the United States of America was founded. The hand of the Mysteries controlled in the establishment of the new government, for the signature of the Mysteries may still be seen on the Great Seal of the United States of America. Careful analysis of the seal discloses a mass of occult and Masonic symbols, chief among them the so-called American eagle--a bird which Benjamin Franklin declared unworthy to be chosen as the emblem of a great, powerful, and progressive people. Here again only the student of symbolism can see through the subterfuge and realize that the American eagle upon the Great Seal is but a conventionalized phoenix, a fact plainly discernible from an examination of the original seal. In his sketch of The History of the Seal of the United States, Gaillard Hunt unwittingly brings forward much material to substantiate the belief that the original seal carried the Phoenix bird on its obverse surface and the Great Pyramid of Gizeh upon its reverse surface. In a colored sketch submitted as a design for the Great Seal by William Barton in 1782, an actual phoenix appears sitting upon a nest of flames. This itself demonstrates a tendency towards the use of this emblematic bird."
Is the phoenix representative of Qutzalcoatl? Hall has this to write regarding Quetzalcoatl:
"The title of "winged" or "plumed" snake was applied to Quetzalcoatl, or Kukulcan, the Central American initiate. The center of the Atlantean Wisdom-Religion was presumably a great pyramidal temple standing on the brow of a plateau rising in the midst of the City of the Golden Gates. From here the Initiate-Priests of the Sacred Feather went forth, carrying the keys of Universal Wisdom to the uttermost parts of the earth. The mythologies of many nations contain accounts of gods who "came out of the sea." Certain shamans among the American Indians tell of holy men dressed in birds' feathers and wampum who rose out of the blue waters and instructed them in the arts and crafts. Among the legends of the Chaldeans is that of Oannes, a partly amphibious creature who came out of the sea and taught the savage peoples along the shore to read and write, till the soil, cultivate herbs for healing, study the stars, establish rational forms of government, and become conversant with the sacred Mysteries. Among the Mayas, Quetzalcoatl, the Savior-God (whom some Christian scholars believe to have been St. Thomas), issued from the waters and, after instructing the people in the essentials of civilization, rode out to sea on a magic raft of serpents to escape the wrath of the fierce god of the Fiery Mirror, Tezcatlipoca...
The two Central American deities, Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl, while often associated with the winds, were also undoubtedly solar gods...
One of the most remarkable of the crucified World Saviors is the Central American god
of the winds, or the Sun, Quetzalcoatl, concerning whose activities great secrecy was
maintained by the Indian priests of Mexico and Central America. This strange immortal,
whose name means feathered snake, appears to have come out of the sea, bringing with
him a mysterious cross. On his garments were embellished clouds and red crosses. In his
honor, great serpents carved from stone were placed in different parts of Mexico.
The cross of Quetzalcoatl became a sacred symbol among the Mayas, and according to
available records the Maya Indian angels had crosses of various pigments painted on their
foreheads. Similar crosses were placed over the eyes of those initiated into their
Mysteries. When Cortez arrived in Mexico, he brought with him the cross. Recognizing
this, the natives believed that he was Quetzalcoatl returned, for the latter had promised to
come back in the infinite future and redeem his people.
These Children of the Sun adore the Plumèd Serpent, who is the messenger of the Sun. He was the God Quetzalcoatl in Mexico, Gucumatz in Quiché; and in Peru he was called Amaru. From the latter name comes our word America. Amaruca is, literally translated, 'Land of the Plumèd Serpent.' The priests of this God of Peace, from their chief centre in the Cordilleras, once ruled both Americas. All the Red men who have remained true to the ancient religion are still under their sway. One of their strong centres was in Guatemala, and of their Order was the author of the book called Popol Vuh. In the Quiché tongue Gucumatz is the exact equivalent of Quetzalcoatl in the Nahuatl language; quetzal, the bird of Paradise; coatl, serpent--'the Serpent veiled in plumes of the paradise-bird'!"
It's interesting that according to Hall "the phoenix made its nest of incense and flames." I saw another reference online which claimed it was built from "twigs". While the olympic flame burned for the duration of the Olympics the copper petals were attached to long thin brownish stems that actually looked to me like incense sticks or twigs.
Hall also has this to say about the eagle and phoenix:
"Among the Greeks and Romans, the eagle was the appointed bird of Jupiter and
consequently signified the swiftly moving forces of the Demiurgus; hence it was looked
upon as the mundane lord of the birds, in contradistinction to the phoenix, which was
symbolic of the celestial ruler. The eagle typified the sun in its material phase and also
the immutable Demiurgic law beneath which all mortal creatures must bend. The eagle
was also the Hermetic symbol of sulphur, and signified the mysterious fire of Scorpio--
the most profoundly significant sign of the zodiac and the Gate of the Great Mystery.
Being one of the three symbols of Scorpio, the eagle, like the Goat of Mendes, was an
emblem of the theurgic art and the secret processes by which the infernal fire of the
scorpion was transmuted into the spiritual light-fire of the gods."
Hall includes Quetzalcoatl as one of history's crucified saviors. His allusions to Quetzalcoatl coming out of the sea seems to equate him with Oannes and also the sumerian god Enki/Ea.
If you take the optomistic view, then the whole ceremony was about attaining enlightenment through meditation so that's why some performers had light bulbs on top of their hats (and why so many had red or orange flaming hair or wigs) -- it was not just to light up the sides of the catwalk runways. In fact, the theme for the Paralympics held right after the regular Olympics was "Enlightenment". Many of the so-called Elite are preparing for the return of the Mesoamerican Mayan god, Quetzalcoatl, whom was known as the feathered serpent, which could explain the Aztec southwestern pattern and design on the stage near the beginning of the show..
According to Wikipedia:
"Among the Aztecs, whose beliefs are the best-documented in the historical sources, Quetzalcoatl was related to gods of the wind, of Venus, of the dawn, of merchants and of arts, crafts and knowledge."
So you can see that Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent or phoenix, is identified as Venus who according to any dictionary is Lucifer. Hall has this to say about Venus:
"The
disciples of Pythagoras also highly revered the planet Venus, because it was the only
planet bright enough to cast a shadow. As the morning star, Venus is visible before
sunrise, and as the evening star it shines forth immediately after sunset. Because of these
qualities, a number of names have been given to it by the ancients. Being visible in the
sky at sunset, it was called vesper, and as it arose before the sun, it was called the false
light, the star of the morning, or Lucifer, which means the light-bearer. Because of this
relation to the sun, the planet was also referred to as Venus, Astarte, Aphrodite, Isis, and
The Mother of the Gods. It is possible that: at some seasons of the year in certain
latitudes the fact that Venus was a crescent could be detected without the aid of a
telescope. This would account for the crescent which is often seen in connection with the
goddesses of antiquity, the stories of which do not agree with the phases of the moon. "
From Dictionary of Symbolism by Hans Biedermann:
"Venus (Greek Aphrodite) The PLANET, originally referred to as a STAR -- "the" morning, or evening, star, and yet one that is never above the horizon at midnight; this "star" was known as Phosphorous or Lucifer ("the bearer of LIGHT") in the Western tradition.... There were similar beliefs in the Mexican highland, where the planet was associated with the divine Quetzalcoatl, or plumed serpent (see SNAKE)."
Although under the entry for the phoenix, Hans Biedermann says, "The analogy between the phoenix and the quetzal of ancient Mexico, however, is problematic.", this shows that even a mainstream book on symbolism is addressing the connection. The connection between the phoenix bird and Lucifer can be seen in the intro for Phoenix Pictures -- which has produced films such as The People Vs Larry Flynt, The Thin Red Line, Shutter Island and Black Swan -- features the striking of a match which is also known as a 'lucifer' and then the showing of the mythical phoenix bird.
“The Phoenix … is believed to be a divine bird going back to Egypt … This Phoenix destroys itself in flames and then rises from the ashes. Most occultists believe that the Phoenix is a symbol of Lucifer who was cast down in flames and who they think will one day rise triumphant.” -- Dr. C. Burns, "Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated"
I guess I just don't believe that one needs to meditate for decades for the glimmer of a chance that one can achieve this supposed "enlightenment". To me, it just seems like yet another carrot that is dangled in front of us to keep us chasing our tails. And the song chosen to play during this part of the ceremony reflects that -- Rule The World by the group named 'Take That'.
"You light the skies up above me. A star so bright you blind me...Yeah, you and me we can ride on a star. If you stay with me, girl, we can rule the world. Yeah, you and me we can light up the sky. If you stay by my side, we can rule the world.... All the stars are coming out tonight. They're lighting up the sky tonight for you, for you. All the stars are coming out tonight. They're lighting up the sky tonight for you, for you"
No, it wasn't the World Health Organization. It really was The Who featuring Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend. The entire evening ended as The Who perfectly summed up the narcissism and selfishness of the Ceremonies with what could have been the anthem of the "me" generation by doing the song My Generation. The Olympic web site declares, "The motto for London 2012 is 'Inspire a generation', reflecting the promise made when London bid for the Games." Personally, I'm almost suprised The Rolling Stones didn't end the Games by invoking Lucifer or Satan with their song Sympathy For The Devil. Led Zeppelin playing their epic classic Stairway To Heaven sure would have been appropriate as well. Oh, well. I was also disappoined that one of my favorite groups, the progressive rock band 'Yes' who is from England was not represented at all, similar to the Canadien Olympics not representing the group 'Rush'. At least The Who didn't play their song I Won't Get Fooled Again or Trick of the Light and they didn't show any of the sun symbolism which the movie Tommy ended with Listening To You and the character Tommy running to and climbing the top of a mountainous rock and raising the sun with his arms. (But perhaps I just missed it.)
The main literary piece quoted from over and over again throughout the Games is Shakespeare's The Tempest which is about a sorceror, a siren, a monster and jesters. Why make this story so central a theme in all the ceremonies?
The ceremony began with a theme of words of British poets strategically placed throughout the show on cars, trucks, catwalks, etc. A close examination of the words was revealing. Many of the songs did use 'positive' terms such as "imagine", "freedom" and "white light". However, a closer examination of the subliminal message behind these phrases must be made. Just because a politician with the goal to be elected uses campaign phrases such as 'hope' and 'change' doesn't mean it will happen as promised. Plus not all change is for the better. Some say Lennon's song is a communist anthem or the ideal of a new world order. George Michael wearing a giant skull belt buckle and singing repetitive songs about the White Light and Freedom or being told to connect while a human skull is formed onstage with a ghost ship, and then there's the Monty Python skit for Always Look On the Bright Side while acknowledging that life's a piece of crap. That whole skit seemed to me to symbolize the soul being stored in cylinders in craters on the moon at death and then shot to the sun during a solar eclipse.
Most the segments were disturbing to me: Queen performing 'We Will ROCK You' (lure you to the moon?) instead of We Are The Champions; the reproduction of the Pink Floyd album cover of a man being lit on fire; quite a few references to us lighting up the sky like dynamite or igniting; the quote from a monstrous beast at the top of the bell tower with newsprint from Kubla Khan, a story of a siren luring the soul to a supposed paradise only to find it to be a deception; and then later the praise of the sea goddess and siren, Nana. Then you have the last song before the extinguishing of the flame being Rule The World by Take That seems to be blatantly boasting about their plan to rule the world through the new world order so, boom, "take that". Ultimately the phoenix who is Quetzalcoatl or Lucifer and its sun symbolism of rebirth through death evokes thoughts of the reincarnation cycle associated with the white light at death. All of this was constantly reinforced with sun and moon imagery, and fire. Of course, George Michael's singing Freedom and White Light while the phrase "I'm Alive" is repeated over 100 times.
The royal family has given us false ideologies to believe in. The West has been given the myth of Christianity by Constantine, egyptian Prince Moses and "King of the Jews" Jesus while the East was given principles of karma, meditation and reincarnation by Prince Krishnna and Prince Buddha to keep them in line. I just don't believe that either fairy tale is the truth. One of the most clever tricks of the elite is to give us the illusion of freedom through two false choices so that we are always divided whether Republican or Democrat or Conservative and Liberal.
I also have a review of the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.
Well. that's it. Please visit my other pages for more detailed info on some of the topics, especially the Trickster page which contains alot of the pagan symbolism because of Pan being the god of chaos and a trickster figure.
